There are pedestals at each door of an area that display the map of the areas already seen as well as the room on the other side of the doors. The gold key is also usually behind lots of traps usually within a single room designed specially for that key and has no other exits.

A gold door can only appear once within the labyrinth while there can be multiple silver doors.
