Resheeting A Roof

When doing a roof replacement project there s a chance that your contractors will propose to remove the existing roofing material and re sheet it with plywood.

It is important here that the sheathing at the eave line be exactly perpendicular to the rafters so that the sheets will meet at the centers of the rafters. This is what is called re sheeting. Most homeowners would probably ask is that important if your home was built before 1970 that answer is likely yes. Place a pitchfork flat garden shovel or shingle scraper under the shingle.

When this is required and in order to meet code we must re sheet the roofing deck prior to installing any roofing material. The last course at the top may need to be rip cut if the roof is not in 4 foot increments. Begin applying the sheets from the bottom of the roof the eaves and work your way up to the ridge. This step is known as roof re sheeting.
